East of England Meeting/ BSUG Road show
Date: 23rd of March 2011
Report by Mr. Mark Slack, Lead Clinician, Addenbrookes' Hospital, Cambridge
This was a really good meeting attended by 21 lead clinicians which had representation from all 18 trusts in the area which reflects the strength of the faculty.
Liz Adams started off with a superb presentation on the accreditation of units. There was some negativity but apart from constructive questions and arguments about the definition of a urogynaecologist, it was well received and generated a fair amount of debate later in the meeting. After hearing the discussion at the business meeting there is little doubt that this group will start to take steps to adopt the process.
Paul Moran followed up with an equally eloquent presentation on the BSUG database. This stimulated enormous interest and will encourage all the units to consider adoption of the BSUG database. Paul's contribution to this was acknowledged. The delegates were delighted to meet the architect behind the project in person.
Sam Taylor from Pfizer gave an excellent appraisal of the White Paper and the forward direction of the new health policy. He brings clarity to the discussion and steers clear of politics.
Tim Hillard finished up with an interesting and insightful presentation on the menopause and HRT. This was enthusiastically received and had to have the Q & A session cut short as it was delaying the programme.
The evening ended with a business meeting of the East of England group who felt that the BSUG participation had been really positive and had contributed to the success of the day.
The response of the delegates has demonstrated the effectiveness of the road show concept.
