TRAINEES INVOLVEMENT IN BSUG COMMITTEES

Congratulations to the following associate members recently elected or appointed for BSUG committees:

  • Shadow Associate members representative: Maya Basu – London Subspecialty Trainee (St George’s Hospital).
  • Training Committee: Gopalan Vijaya – London Trainee
  • Governance Committee: Ashish Pradhan – Cambridge Subspecialty Trainee

Best of luck to you all during your term in office.

I have entered my last year as your representative. Maya Basu will shadow me during this time and she will take up post in the committee at the AGM next year.

Please let me know of any suggestions or issues that you’d like me to bring up to the committee.

ASU - AGM 2011

Those who attended the Annual Scientific Update meeting on the 8th and 9th of November would agree with me that the meeting was great. There were some very good and entertaining lectures. The trainee’s case presentations by Sheela Swamy and Karen Rose were very interesting, as were the abstracts presented at the ARM.

The Society’s AGM was held on Tuesday the 8th. The attendance of associate members was slightly better than the year before but it still remains low. I hope that the numbers will continue increasing for future meetings.

I’d like to remind everyone that voting for elections is now online, so you can still vote even if you do not attend the AGM. Bear this in mind for future elections.

RCOG CAREERS FAIR

This event was held at the college on Saturday the 19th of November. BSUG, along with other specialty societies, presented a workshop facilitated by Sheela Swamy, Maya Basu and myself. It was a great opportunity to talk to a high number of medical students and Foundation doctors, most of whom were highly motivated to apply for training in O&G, with some already setting sight on Urogynaecology!

We gave them some hands on taster on models for retropubic and trans-obturator tapes as well as some demonstrations on prolapse surgery, videos on surgical procedures, and obviously advise on how great O&G, and particularly Urogynaecology, is. Watch this space for photos of the event.
We’d like to thank Ethicon and Boston Scientific for their help with models and sample devices; and also Jessica Letters and the College Conference Department for their help in setting up the workshop.
